The official website of TV anime The Heike Story (Heike Monogatari), which is adapted from Hideo Furukawa’s novel, has posted a video teaser and new images of the film. It is scheduled to premiere on Fuji TV’s programming channel +Ultra on January 12, 2022.

The Heike Story (平家物語 – Heike Monogatari) is a Japanese original net animation series adapted from Hideo Furukawa’s 2016 translation into modern Japanese of The Tale of the Heike, a 13th-century historical epic depicting the rise and fall of the Taira clan.
The main cast includes:
- Aoi Yuki as the main character Biwa
- Takahiro Sakurai as Taira no Shigemori
- Saori Hayami as Empress Taira no Tokuko
- Tessho Genda as Taira’s patriarch Taira no Kiyomori

Furukawa’s novel describe the classic Japanese epic, The Tale of the Heike, in modern language and this film will be the first television anime adaptation of the novel. The original epic tells the story of the Taira clan’s rise and collapse during the Genpei War. The film revolves around the point of view of Biwa, a blind busker. Biwa meets Taira no Shigemori, the heir of the Taira clan, who has a supernatural ability to perceive the existence of demons. Later, Biwa told him a prophecy about the downfall of his clan.
