During a press conference held at a Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on last Wednesday, Makoto Shinkai – director of ‘Your Name’, ‘Weathering with you’ – announced his new project titled Suzume no Tojimari (Suzume Locking Up The Door). The anime series will premiere in Japan in the Autumn of 2022.

Shinkai describes Suzume no Tojimari as a modern adventure story, an action movie and also “on the road movie”. The story features a 17-year-old girl named Suzume who meets a young man looking for a door. Following him, they found an old door in the ruins of the mountain, and Suzume opened it. Afterwards, other doors began to open one after another in many places of Japan. Disasters will come from the other side of the doors, so the opened doors must be closed. The film depicts Suzume’s liberation and growth as she closes the doors that are causing disasters.
According to Shinkai, the key points of this movie is that it’s a story about “closing the doors” instead of opening them.
