Koyoharu Gotouge’s Kimetsu no Yaiba manga ended a year ago, but the manga and anime continue to break new records. The latest anime film – Mugen Train, has set a new record, becoming the most watched animated film of the 21st century.

The Japanese website Livedoor News reported that the series achieved an average viewership rating of 21.4% in the Kanto Region on September 25 in their television broadcast. The highest time was recorded at 11:08 with the rate of 22.9%. In terms of numbers, about 11 million households watched the movie, the highest being 11.76 million.
The movie broke the record that was set 22 years ago. The previous record was in April 1999, when the classic anime series “Famous Detective Conan” achieved a rating of 23.4%.

However, in those years, television in Japan reached about 12.5 million people, clearly much lower than it is today. So many people think that the number of records of Kimetsu no Yaiba is only considered impressive and can’t beat that previous record.
This is still a huge number for Japanese television, especially when it comes to animated films. The opening of the Tokyo Olympic Games had an audience rating of 56.4%, but other animated films or real life film usually do not exceed 10-12%.
